Improved water access and farming
Eng. James K. Wandimi 17-08-10 08:02:27

I have been involved in consultancy work for quite some period now. In the
course of this endeavour I have come across a combination of appropriate
technology that would change the face of the residents of Laikipia west where I
grew up for ever.

Some of these that I would write home about are the Solar
powered water pump and the green house/drip irrigation kit.

There exist new
solar pumps with discharges of 400l/hr. Since a lot of homestead in Laikipia
especially Ng'arua have reliable hand dug wells, this kind of pumps can suit the
usage nicely. The pumps are installed together with a storage tank (roto tanks
or any other) such that the farmer will not have to pump on a daily basis
(probably once a week) depending on the yield of the well. The solar panels can
thus be used for lighting, TV, mobile charging e.t.c for the subsequent
days.

A greenhouse drip irrigation kit is supplied by AMIRAN (K) or KARI. It
is used...
Environmental aspect missing
Maina D.Wanjohi 07-12-09 14:33:52

Dear Mheshimiwa,

Thanks for your word on pertinent issues in our
constittuency.

It appears there is no mention of environmental management and
conservation vis-a vis Marmanet and Rumuruti forest destruction.

With the
ongoing Copenhagen climate change meeting it is imperative we have a home grown
solution to mitigate the effects of global warming in our constituency.Water
availability is mainly supportive by forest/vegetation cover.

My ideas include
afforestation and reafforestaion in both government forests and rural
afforestation.

LAIKIPIA WEST RESIDENTS GET TOGETHER
Lucy Mwangi 26-10-09 02:21:33

Would the MP consider organising a get together for all Laikipia West
professionals resident in Nairobi with a view of discussing development projects
back home as well as an interaction forum where peope can exchange ideas and get
to interact ?

Dr peter Waweru 21-07-09 14:02:11

This is a good forum where your constituents can let you know about the
activities of the leader. A lot of things are happening for the good of our
community. We have a duty to make our constituency a better place to leave.

Muchemi-KU 29-04-09 04:21:21

the greatest economies of this world are made by people who do not only
complain, challenge , critic but also offer suggestions, solutions and wayforward
to the prevailling problems/issues.How I wish we could embrace this and we help
grow our nation. Even the Noah's Ark was not build in one day but it came to
help when it's time was due.
Am not defending the M.P. although he is but
"Mundu umwe ti njogu" lets bring ideas and make ideals.

Laikipia west people you have done a commendable job to have such a facility
which has continued to be useful to us even as we undertake some Consultancy on
OVOP. Kudos for embrasing technology.
Anonymous 19-03-09 04:13:25

yah i think its the way we should all move towards sharing information. what is
OVOP please??
Consultant
Stephen Kathurima Muriuki 21-03-09 06:24:23

OVOP simply means One Village One Product.

It is a concept that is being
introduced in the country to help spur industrialization. OVOP therefore is a
strategic model designed specifically for regional development. It requires
people to take up a product or industry distinctive to their region and
cultivate it into a nationally, or even globally, accepted one.

This model
has gained popularity in other parts of the world and has immersely contributed
to economic growth of countries such as Japan, Malysia, China, Thailand,
Philippines among others. Coming close home we have Malawi, South Africa,
Tunisia and Tanzania where it has been introduced.

To help achieve some of
the strategic goals set out in the Kenya Vision 2030 and Medium Term Plan (MTP)
2008 – 2012, OVOP concept is being considered as one of the effective models
to be used.

It will contribute to poverty erradication and wealth creation

Laikipia leather & OVOP
Anonymous 05-04-09 06:43:45

Stephen has already explained OVOP - that is one village one product. In
Laikpia West, we have identified leather and leather products as one of our key
products.

We have started work on branding laikipia leather, to give it higher
value, and to ensure that that value reaches the pastoralist. So this is a great
time to consider investments in this sector; and there are plenty. We need a
tannery, a leather products factory, as well as shoe making.

Look out for the
Rumuruti investment forum later this month!
lariak forest
Hon.Ndiritu 13-02-09 08:29:59

To achieve a prosperous laikipia west our environment is of great concern. The
destruction of lariak forest has increased incidences of human-wildlife
conflict. We plan to join hands with the youth and plant more trees this year in
lariak forest,Secondly with other stakeholders we plan to have an electric fence
around the forest. Finally we call upon you and other proffessionals from the
area to educate the public on benefits of conserving our environment.Kudos
keep that fire burning
evan .M.Nj 14-02-09 09:05:36

Thank you for that update. lets join hands for the sake of our environment.

Evan M.Nj 13-02-09 05:06:00

First and foremost, is to thank you mr. Hon. M.P and assistant Minister and your
people for the good work you are doing. thanks for the big vision for the
educated, prosperous, secure and socially cohesive Laikipia West. Its evident
that Laikipia West is undergoing many exciting changes but also some other
worrying conditions. I am just worried and concerned about our forests, what we
as the people are doing to the forests and what the forests are giving in
return.

my home area is Sipili and i have been there for 21 yrs now and the
clear fact is that this area and others surrounding it have depreciated from
high production/potential areas to far beyond semi arid areas and almost arid
areas.

my concerne as a student of urban and regional planning in the
University of Nairobi lies within the forest as is tated earlier(Lariak
forest).

is Lariak forest potential forest like all the rent in Kenya? how
practical is i...

Losogwa-Kigumo bridge
Paul Ngure 16-01-09 06:44:25

Hon. Nderitu,
Kindly help the Kigumo community by making a follow-up of this
bridge that have remained foryears a problem to all that use it. Past years it
was said to have be given money but the work done was shody, not to mention the
communities had invested their money and time to help work on it to no
avail.

For years we have been neglected and ope and have trust that with you
this will be our turn too.

Help us also with rural Electrification of this area
as this would help in development projects.

Thanks for your efforts in working
for us and with us. God richly bless you sir.

Kindest regards,

Pst. Paul
Ngure,
Kigumo.

Samson Kamonji 02-01-09 08:10:16

You have done a commendable job in electing professionals to head core committee
in the constituency BUT the CACC and CDF committee leaves a lot to be desired.
The CDF in particular have people who have no clue about development. Retired
primary school teachers will not lead Lkp Wst in achieving millennium
development goals and vision 2030.
