This is the revelation that members got on the 6th of Feb 2010 when they attended an urgent meeting convened by their chairman Charles K. Njogu.
The long awaited news were welcomed by the 1,000 plus members who attended the meeting for they have patiently waited the realization of this dream from the year 2001.
The group started as a self help group and as time went by, it became apparent that it should be registered as a cooperative.
With the assistance of the divisional cooperative officer Mr Chege and the DCO Mr Githuku, this broad move was successful.
As by now, an engineer of the Chinese firm which sold the plant to the farmers is on site and eighty percent of plant assembly have been done.
To date the farmers have expended Kshs 7,000,000 in buying a three acre parcel of land on which the plant lies, building the facility and purchasing the plant.
Once started, the farmers from the region stand to benefit a lot by selling their produce to a milling plant of their own and the value addition proceeds will be ploughed back to the region.
