Making a fresh start

Hon. Ndiritu MuriithiI shall be voting Yes on August 4th, and urge everyone in Laikipia to do so.  I shall vote Yes! because I want a fresh start for my country and my constituency.  I want to do away with the old constitution.  It allowed a previous regime to plunder and destroy my country.  It facilitated that regime to grab 16,000Ha of Marmanet forest, thus destroying all the sawmills around Laikipia.  Many people lost their jobs, and the entire local economy was ruined.

We want, and desperately need, to recreate the state afresh.  To lay the new foundations for a recreated state, we need a new constitution.  And that is why I shall be voting Yes.

How does the current constitution create conditions for bad governance? It does so, because everyone serves in the public sector at the pleasure of the president.  It allows the president to hire and fire people at will. It gives the president the power to create and abolish any public office.  All these create the conditions for dictatorship.
