CDF Bursary Disbursed To Colleges

The much awaited bursary funds have now been disbursed to the respective colleges. A total of kshs 3.7 million were disbursed to colleges and another 2.7 million shillings disbursed to Day secondary schools.

This brings the total bursary disbursements made by Laikipia West Constituency development fund committee (CDFC) in year 2010 to kshs 7.2 million shillings.

A total of 2540 students in 149 institutions benefited. College/ university and day school beneficiaries were 740 and 1800 respectively.

The boarding secondary schools were awarded bursary through the ministry kitty. This was after consultations between the Constituency Bursary committee (CBF) and CDFC In order to avoid duplication of resource allocation.

Salama Polytechnic gets a big boost from CDF

Salama Polytechnic has been re-started courtesy of CDF. The polytechnic which had stalled for several years is now fully revived with a total of 20 students continuing with studies. CDF allocated kshs 800,000.00 for renovation and electricity installation.

 Since the polytechnic is yet to receive grants from the Ministry, CDFC patron recommended full bursary assistance to students studying in the polytechnic. The Constituency leadership recognizes the important role of polytechnics in developing youths to be self reliant and engage in meaningful employment.

Out of the 68,881 cast votes, 58,910 said YES, 9,020 said NO while 1,051 were spoilt.

It is well in  Laikipia west after overwhelmingly saying Yes!

The referendum exercise went very well in Laikipia West despite being branded, a “hotspot.” Voters were clam and peaceful.

August 4^th,

The referendum day;

Polling stations were open by 6.00am. Voters were already queuing and everything went one smoothly.

Hon. Ndiritu Muriithi MP, voted at Shamanei Primary at 10.30 am then toured several polling stations, starting with Karangi Primary, Igwamiti, Social Hall, Muthengera Pry, Karandi pry, Kinamba pry and Lariak Pry and Ndurumo Primary doubling it with touring various development projects including Kinamba – Sipili road (Njorua) section which had been destroyed by torrential rains, Sipili- Minjore road, and also Ndurumo Day Secondary which is under construction (see photos). The MP and the DC, Mr. Njunge stayed overnight at the tallying centre until final results were announced by the Returning Officer, Madam Agnes at 5.24 am. Madam Agnes thanked for the Security Officered in Laikipia West, saying it was almost overwhelming. The MP thanked the Laikipia West voters, IIEC, Security Personnel and all who made this historic change happen. “ It was great work!  It is without doubt, the dawn of a new, bright and hopeful era, both for Laikipia and Kenya,” he said.

Making a fresh start

I shall be voting Yes on August 4^th, and urge everyone in Laikipia to do so.  I shall vote Yes! because I want a fresh start for my country and my constituency.  I want to do away with the old constitution.  It allowed a previous regime to plunder and destroy my country.  It facilitated that regime to grab 16,000Ha of Marmanet forest, thus destroying all the sawmills around Laikipia.  Many people lost their jobs, and the entire local economy was ruined.

We want, and desperately need, to recreate the state afresh.  To lay the new foundations for a recreated state, we need a new constitution.  And that is why I shall be voting Yes. 

How does the current constitution create conditions for bad governance? It does so, because everyone serves in the public sector at the pleasure of the president.  It allows the president to hire and fire people at will. It gives the president the power to create and abolish any public office.  All these create the conditions for dictatorship.
